Family Wedding and the 2010 Olympics

I walked into work one day and found out that BC Transit was doing a hire for Bus Drivers for the 2010 Olympics.  It just so happens that I drive bus for Thunder Bay Transit. So I applied and was accepted.  YES!!  I was going to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver/Whistler, BC at the end of January to be a member of the staff that would transport guests and athletes from all over the world.

I had been planning on going to my niece’s wedding in British Columbia later in the year.  Then one day she called to let me know the date of her wedding had to be changed to Jan. 24, 2010.  I had to do some fancy foot work in arranging when I could arrive so that I could go onto the Olympics the following week.  I did not want her to know I would be at the wedding.  I wanted to surprise her.

Long story short it all worked out.  I let my sister know I was coming and told her to keep it a secret.  BOY… she was overjoyed because I have a lot of experience working in the Florist Industry and they needed all the Flowers done for the wedding.  My niece had left it up to her mother to decide what floral arrangements were needed. So she handed the assignment over to me.

I went shopping in Thunder Bay for things I would need to put some bouquets together and packed it all up to go to Vancouver, BC.

The day before the wedding had come.  The plane left at 5:15am Ontario time.  I got to Vancouver Airport and then had to drive to Chilliwack BC to go shopping for fresh flowers and get them in water and prepped in time to be able to surprise my niece.  What a shock for her…she had no idea I was coming and that was so much fun!!

But there was lots of work to be done before the event the next day.  We took all my supplies and flowers to the rehearsal party.  I grabbed some pizza and met a lot of people as I started preparing and creating the bouquets and arrangements (wedding party of 8 plus parents).  I worked as they partied.  My day ended at 1:00am British Columbia time (4:00am Ontario time).

The next day it was time to fine tune all the Flowers and have them finished in time.  I did it with time to spare…Not bad for a sleep deprived jet-lagged old girl!!

The Wedding was so nice and I had so many compliments on the flowers; I was feeling pretty good by the end of the day.

Now the Olympics were just days away and I was going to Whistler, BC to be part of it!!
